Biking from Ghent to Rome. With a group of 10 women. Who each collect at least 2,500 euros for the VUB Yamina Krossa Fund. Cross 4 countries in 14 days, covering 1,736 kilometres and 19,348 altimeters.
That's the Ride2Rome in a nutshell. However, this cycling tour is so much more than a dry recitation of figures. It is, above all, an unforgettable cycling adventure for sports-minded, passionate women who want to something for the benefit of other members of their sex. For women who are fighting a battle they didn’t choose: breast cancer.

Ride2Rome isn’t the first event organised by Little Black Bike that goes from Ghent to Rome. In 2011 we also did this tour with a group of women to raise money for a good cause, while our 2012, 2013 and 2014 trips took us from Ghent to Barcelona. Thanks to these four cycling trips we were able to donate more than 150,000 euros in all to cancer research initiatives. Making the world a better place by cycling? Yes, we can! Yamina Krossa, who was a breast cancer patient herself at the time, launched a campaign in 2015 through her non-profit organisation Benetiet to fully reimburse breast cancer patients for their breast reconstruction operations. She succeeded in 2016. Now, Yamina Krossa is making the remaining funds of her dissolved non-profit organisation available to a new VUB Fund for breast cancer research. These funds will initially be used to finance VUB scientist Damya Laoui’s research into a cancer vaccine.
The roots of the woman who founded Little Black Bike, Angélique, lie in Italy. It is the homeland of her grandmother. ‘After the last cycling trip for charity in 2014, I became a mum of two myself: Aimée is now 5 and Odiel is 2 years old. Those Italian roots are somehow becoming even more important to me now,’ she says. ‘Just like the feeling that – as a mum and a businesswoman – I want to do something in return.’
Rome, the capital of Italy and one of the most charismatic cities in the world, is also a wonderful destination. And the road leading to it is at least as beautiful. The cycle route is one long string of breathtaking panoramas. The moment she crossed the St Bernhard Pass is forever engraved in Angélique’s memory. Pisa and Sienna are also unforgettable stops along the way.

‘Stante pede, subito presto’ is what our hearts are screaming. But because summer is the most enjoyable season for a cycling tour like this, and because we’re still looking for 10 passionate adventurers for this trip, we will have to be patient for a few more months. This 14-day adventure will start in August 2021. We will return to Ghent by air two days after our arrival in Rome.
